Doctors recommend to start a diet for some medical conditions like obesity, high cholesterol or diabetes. You may be on a special diet for a few days or for many months. For reducing weight many start a fad diet, but that is not the answer for your weight loss problem. The question arrises: what is a fad diet? A fad diet recommendes to eat a certain group of foods and eliminate certain foods or a group of food from your daily meals. The examples of diets are:
Grapefruit Diet : eat only grapefruit.
Low Carb Diet : eat foods low in carbohydrates, Atkin's diet
While low-carbohydrate/high-protein diets may help to lose weight rapidly, researchers have now found that such diets may lead to atherosclerosis and impaired blood vessel growth, reports a research done by a scientific team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in August 2009.
Low Fat Diet : eat foods low in fats or eliminate fats in diet.
High Protein Diet : Eat only protein rich foods, eliminating carbohydrates

Negative calorie diet
the South beach diet
the zone diet
The fad diets offer only a temporary solution and are not based on the recommendations of the food pyramid. The fad diets are not without a danger. On using a fad diet, you may lose weight fast, but later on you may again gain weight and your body may be deficient in many nutrients that can develop health problems.
A good healthy diet should provide all the major nutrients including dietary fibers, carbohydrates, proteins, good fats, minerals, and vitamins. The best way to tackle any health problem is to eat a balanced diet and do some physical exercise daily.
You should not start any diet if it does not allow to eat any major group of the food pyramid. A healthy diet that include vegetables, fruits, legumes, lentils and beans ensures all the major nutrients necessary for good health. Following is the foods you should include in your meals.
- Whole-wheat bread, whole-grain cereal and rice.
- Skim milk and yogurt.
- vegetable salad and vegetable soup.
- Whole grains like kidney beans, black-eye beans, chick peas and lentils.
- Steamed or lightly cooked green vegetables.
- Any dessert with less sugar.
- Lean meat (it is better to avoid).
By eating these foods, you will never feel hungry and you will never gain weight.
